Parkmore
Precinct Plan
Public Participate and Comment Request |
|
|
On Wednesday 6th February 2008, the PCA
held a Public meeting related to a
Precinct Plan for Parkmore to be
submitted to Council by the PCA on
behalf of Parkmore. The meeting
was held at Montrose Primary School and
we had almost 100 interested parties
attend.
We felt that all Residents and Business
Owners should have sight of what was
discussed on the night, together with
the suggested alternatives. A
number of you may already have received
copies of the alternatives via email and
hopefully would have responded.

Parkmore Community Improvement District
Initiative |
|
|
The Parkmore Community
Association (PCA) is a voluntary
association of residents within the
Parkmore Village area. One of our
primary aims and objectives is to watch
over and protect the interests of the
ratepayers of Parkmore. To accelerate
this process, the PCA is working to
establish a CITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
(CID), with Kagiso Urban Management as
consultants to advise and assist with
the process.
Recently the PCA launched a 'Safe and
Clean' initiative along 11th Street,
engaging cleaners to clean and monitor
waste along that stretch. This has been
well received by businesses along 11th
Street.
There are currently 16 legislated CID’s
within Gauteng, the first totally
residential CID in Berea, Johannesburg,
was legislated in August 2007 . Managed
environments offer friendly, clean and
safe conditions that are a prerequisite
for investment and growth. Improvement
districts have led to the provision of
managed environments, in conjunction
with municipal departments, and are a
proven tool in the fight to achieving
improved service delivery, and
‘ownership’ of your own suburb. Through
these mechanisms property and business
owners have seen phenomenal growth in
their investments. The Braamfontein
district has seen A-grade property
rentals grow approximately 20%. The
Rosebank Management District is one of
our longest-running CID’s and Sandton
Central manages the Sandton business
district, Sandton Convention Centre and
the Wierda Valley area.
As residents or business owners in the
Parkmore community it is important to us
that your support and input to our plans
is gained.

PARKMORE'S WAR ON
WASTE !!! |
|

Parkmore’s Zero Waste
Team are (from left): Jimmy Tsigo,
George Sebako, Brendan
Byrne, Sam Mbiza, Keith Quiding, Ishmael
Bothlolo. |
| |
Parkmore’s Zero Waste
Initiative is expanding to include all
the households and businesses in the
Parkmore Village.
Previously, the intrepid Zero Waste
Collection Agents –Jimmy, George, Sam &
Ishmael - only collected recyclable
material from the area between Grayston
Drive and Olympia Avenue. But, with the
addition of another trike, they are now
also able to cover the area from Olympia
down to the Sandton Field and Study
Centre.
Sporting their new yellow and black
regalia, they will be cycling around
Parkmore collecting all manner of
recyclables (cardboard, newspaper,
magazines, cans, glass and plastic
milk/cold drink bottles) and taking them
up to the PCA’s Waste Recycling Site (in
the parking area at 129, 10th street,
next to the Medical Centre).
The Zero Waste Initiative has been run
by Keith Quiding (the PCA’s Business
Lead) for the last few years, who was
joined this year by Brendan Byrne. They
both believe very strongly in the need
for all communities to adopt such
recycling programs, and are intent on
increasing the scale of Parkmore’s
current waste recycling.
Parkmore’s Zero Waste Initiative
currently takes over 180 tons of waste
per year out of landfills and puts the
recyclable material back into the
production system, thus alleviating a
great deal of pressure put on our
already constrained environment.
Plans are afoot to combine the recently
assigned 11th Street Cleaners with the
Zero Waste team, so as to make for a
complementary service supervised by a
CID manager.
We urge all Parkmore residents and
businesses to keep all their recyclables
aside in a box or container and call the
Zero Waste team (number below) to come
by and collect these when full.
If you have any queries please don’t
hesitate to call Brendan on 082
498-0172. |
